Quickbooks File Repair — Technical issue with deposit screen
"Technical issue with deposit screen" describes a QuickBooks display problem where the deposit window has expanded in width and will not return to its original size. This is a desktop-view preference issue, not data damage, and it can usually be corrected from within QuickBooks in a couple of clicks.
What this issue means
QuickBooks remembers the position and size of its windows as part of your desktop view preferences. When the deposit window stretches and stays stretched, the saved window state has simply gotten stuck. Your transactions and company .QBW file are unaffected.
Symptoms you'll typically see
- The Make Deposits window opens wider than the screen or wider than it used to be.
- Dragging the edge of the window does not make the change stick.
- Other QuickBooks windows behave normally while only the deposit screen misbehaves.
How to resolve it
- Choose the Edit menu, then Preferences.
- When the Preferences window opens, choose Desktop View from the left-hand list.
- On the My Preferences tab, select One Window under the View choice.
- This resizes the deposit window back to the available screen size.
If the problem keeps returning
- Close all open windows in QuickBooks, then reopen only the deposit screen so a clean window state is saved.
- Confirm your monitor resolution has not changed, which can throw off saved window sizes.
- Run Verify Data if you notice any other odd behavior alongside the display glitch.
When to call our team
A misbehaving window on its own is a preferences fix, not a recovery case. But if the deposit screen problem comes with errors, freezes, or refusal to open the company file, those point to damage in the .QBW. Our engineers can examine the file and its .TLG log to confirm. We work in-house in North America, and under our no-data-no-charge policy you pay nothing unless your data is recovered.
See QuickBooks data recovery or start a recovery if your file shows signs of damage.
