Quickbooks File Repair — OL-2XX

The OL-2XX online-banking errors (such as OL-206) relate to remote network or server problems between you and your bank, despite messages that may say to contact Intuit. They are connection-side issues, not damage to your QuickBooks company file.

What OL-2XX means

These errors arise during online banking when QuickBooks cannot complete a clean exchange with the financial institution's servers. Even when the on-screen text points you to Intuit, the real source is usually the remote network or the bank's server. Older versions stated this more accurately — QuickBooks 2000 correctly directs you to contact the financial institution, and OL-206 in that version says to try again later and, if it still fails, contact the bank.

Symptoms you'll typically see

  • An OL-2XX code (for example OL-206) during an online-banking session.
  • The error comes and goes depending on the time of day.
  • Downloads complete on a later attempt without changing any settings.

Common causes

  • Delays on the internet path between your computer and the bank.
  • A temporary problem on the financial institution's server.
  • Heavy online-banking traffic at a busy time.

What you can safely try first

  • Note how often the error occurs — frequency is the key to whether it is a passing glitch.
  • Try again later, preferably at a less busy time of day.
  • If it keeps failing, contact your financial institution, since the issue is on their side.
  • Confirm your internet connection is stable before retrying the download.

When to call our team

An OL-2XX banking error does not threaten your accounting data, so it is not a recovery case on its own. If, separately, QuickBooks throws data errors or will not open your company file, the problem lies in the .QBW itself. Our engineers can examine the file and its .TLG log and repair it when needed. We work in-house in North America, and our no-data-no-charge policy means you pay nothing unless your data is recovered.
