Error code: C=3371 means QuickBooks could not initialize its license properties, usually shown alongside "Status Code -11118: Could not initialize license properties" or "QuickBooks could not load the license data." What C=3371 means

QuickBooks stores activation and license information in a small system file. When that file is missing, corrupted, or unreadable, the program cannot validate itself and stops with this code. Because the failure happens at startup, it can look alarming, but your accounting data in the .QBW file is typically untouched.

Common causes

  • A damaged or out-of-date entitlement/license file on the workstation.
  • Installing a new version on top of an older one that already had damage.
  • Permission problems when QuickBooks was installed under a non-Admin account.

What you can safely try first

A clean reinstall under a fresh, fully privileged account resolves most cases. The sequence reported to fix this error is:

  • Uninstall the non-working program through Add/Remove Programs.
  • Create a new user account in Control Panel, then log off and sign in to it.
  • Insert the install disc; click Cancel when the autorun installer appears.
  • Open My Computer, explore the disc, and go directly to the setup file in the QBooks folder.
  • Run setup, enter your license and product numbers, and choose to replace the older copy when prompted.

You can also delete or rename the entitlement data store so QuickBooks regenerates it on the next launch.
