Quickbooks File Repair — Error code: C=1311
QuickBooks error C=1311 is a "source file not found" error -- QuickBooks reports it cannot read a file it needs, typically with a message like "Source file not found [file name]. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." It has classically appeared as a read failure off the installation CD.
What C=1311 means
The C=1311 code tells you QuickBooks reached for a file -- often during installation -- and could not read it. The message names the file it expected. Because the original reports centered on installs, the usual culprit is the media or drive the program is reading from rather than your company data.
Common causes
- A damaged or scratched installation CD.
- A failing or dirty CD/DVD drive that can't read the disc reliably.
- A required source file that is genuinely missing or inaccessible at the named path.
What you can safely try first
- Copy the entire QuickBooks folder from the installation CD onto your hard disk first, then run the install from the hard disk copy. This sidesteps a flaky CD read and is the documented fix.
- Clean the disc and try a different optical drive if you have one.
- Confirm the file named in the message actually exists at the path shown and that your account can access it.
When professional recovery is the safer path
If the "source file not found" message names your company file (a .QBW) rather than an install file, QuickBooks is unable to locate or read your data -- and that points at a moved, renamed, or damaged file rather than bad media. Our engineers locate the correct file, recover the data inside it, and rebuild any damaged structure so it opens normally.
Why bring it to us
We work directly on the file and preserve every recoverable record. The work is done in-house in North America, never outsourced, with no charge if we cannot recover your data.
