Quickbooks File Repair — "Quickbooks Error C=44 (can't write transaction)"
QuickBooks error C=44 means QuickBooks "can't write transaction" -- it tried to save a transaction to the company file and could not complete the write. It is most often a sign of corruption or file damage to the .QBW, and it can also surface when multiple transactions are accessed at the same time.
What C=44 means
The C= value identifies the internal routine that failed. C=44 is the write path: QuickBooks attempted to commit a transaction and the operation failed, usually because the area of the .QBW file it needed to write to is damaged. The result is that your edit or new transaction won't save.
Common causes
- Corruption or damage inside the
.QBWcompany file. - Attempting to access or post multiple transactions simultaneously.
- An interrupted prior write -- a crash or power loss mid-save -- that left the file inconsistent.
What you can safely try first
- Close any extra windows and avoid having several users post to the same area at once, then retry the single transaction.
- Make a backup of the current file before doing anything further.
- Run Verify Data and then Rebuild Data (File > Utilities) to repair the damaged region QuickBooks couldn't write to.
When professional recovery is the safer path
If C=44 keeps blocking saves after a Rebuild, the damaged section of the .QBW is beyond what QuickBooks can repair, and continuing to work risks losing the transactions you can't save. Our engineers read the file directly, recover your existing transactions and lists, and rebuild the damaged structure so writes succeed again.
